Top 5 Washington Nationals Hitters of All Time
The Washington Nationals have a short history since moving to Washington in 2005. The team which was originally the Montreal Expos had a variety of choices when choosing a new home. The choices included Norfolk, Virginia; New Jersey; Charlotte, North Carolina; Puerto Rico; and even Monterrey, Mexico. The owners of the other major league baseball teams voted 28-1 in favor of Washington. When talking about the greatest Nationals hitters, there are two ways to go about this. You can include Expo’s players but for the sake of the Nationals fan we will stick to players who played at least one season in Washington.
5. Josh Willingham- A short term player for the Nationals, Willingham wore the Washington uniform in 2009 and 2010. Willingham-s best year was his first where he hit 24 homers and hit for a decent .260 batting average and a career high slugging percentage at .496.
4. Alfonso Soriano- Soriano was brought to Washington from Texas in 2006. In that year he belted 46 blasts and even stole 19 bases for extra measure. He only lasted one year for the Nationals but he did make it a fun year.
3. Adam Dunn- Adam played for the Nationals only two years but made an impact in those two years. He played for Washington in 2009 and 2010 and hit 38 home runs in both of those years. He also drove in over 100 RBIs each year and that is not an easy task.
2. Michael Morse- Michael played three good years in Washington with this year being a career year for him. He is currently batting a career high in average at .316, home runs at 21, RBIs at 72, and his Slugging percentage is over 540. Let-s hope his success continues.
1. Ryan Zimmerman- A fan favorite and a player favorite as well, Zimmerman has been with the Nationals since the beginning. He leads the Nationals in almost all hitting categories. Even if you include Expo’s history, he is second to only Guerrero among current MLB players in Home runs, RBIs, and batting average. He is the face of the Nationals and a very respectable player as well.
